Research Overview

GIBD conducts interdisciplinary research on geospatial big data analytics, spatiotemporal analysis/modeling, spatial computing, cyberGIS, and geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) within the area of data- and computation-intensive GIScience. By integrating advanced computing technologies, geospatial methods, and spatiotemporal principles, GIBD aims to advance knowledge discovery to support domain applications such as disaster management, public health, human dynamics, and climate analytics. The research endeavors are supported by more than 30 grants received from National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Taylor Geospatial Institute, NOAA Sea Grant Consortium, and the South Carolina Department of Social Services, among others.
